Run by experienced certified instructors and fishing guides Captain Keith Kalbfleisch and Captain Chris Myers, the Orlando Fly Fishing Academy is supported by the International guidance of the Federation of Fly Fishers.  In addition, other highly respected guides, casting instructors, and outdoor writers contribute to the excellence of the school.  The Credentials of the principals in the school include:

Captain Chris Myers

Captain Chris has a lifetime of fishing experience including nearly thirty years of fishing the salt and fresh waters around the state of Florida.  As a licensed fishing captain, Capt. Chris has been able to share his passion for fishing with people from around the world. He specializes not only in sight fishing the flats, but also in teaching others how to become better anglers.  An experienced fly angler himself, Capt. Chris is also a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor.  To obtain this certification, one must demonstrate an ability to teach in a structured setting in addition to a high level of proficiency in fly casting. 

Capt. Chris has been a featured speaker at numerous events, stores, angling clubs, and fishing shows including the Bass Pro Shops Fishing Classic, The Florida Sportsman Fishing Show, The Coastal Angler Fishing and Boating Expo, and Fishstock.  In addition to being a guide and instructor, Chris is a member of the Florida Outdoor Writers Association. His articles and photographs have been featured in Florida Sport Fishing, Coastal Angler Magazine, and Florida Outdoor Adventures, among others.

Capt. Chris is a member of the pro-staff for DOA Fishing Lures, Woodies Rattles, and Power Pole. He is also sponsored by Temple Fork Outfitters, Daiwa, and Minn Kota. He is currently a member of the board of governors for the Florida Guides Association, is a member of the Florida Coastal Conservation Association, Federation of Fly Fishers Guides Association, Indian River Guides Association, and National Association of Charterboat Operators.

Captain Keith Kalbfleisch

Captain Keith has an extensive background in fly fishing, being raised fishing for trout and salmon in the great Northwest as a youth, then carrying that experience into Florida in the 70s.  At the age of twelve, he was already selling flies to local fishermen.  In addition to his over 30 years of fly fishing experience, he is a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor—the standard for excellence worldwide in fly fishing instruction.

Capt. Keith is an experienced guide knowledgeable in all aspects of fishing—able not only to fish, but competent in instructing others in fishing.  He has fished Florida’s saltwater for over 30 years, with over 15 in the local East Central Florida area, including Mate and Captain on offshore and inshore charter boats.   His experience stretches around the world, having fished around the nation, Central and South America, the South Pacific, and the Indian Ocean.

Credentials include: Bass Pro Shop’s National PRO Captain Staff, TTI-Blakemore National Captain (Distributors for Reel Magic, Daiichi, X-Point, and True-Turn hooks); sponsored by Costa Del Mar Sunglasses, Calusa Cast Nets, Hook Up Jigs, and D.O.A. Lures; Certified Captain for the International Game Fish Association (IGFA); Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Captain, Life Member and on the local Board; Central-East Coast Director for the Florida Guides Association; Vice President of the Indian River Guides Association; Past President and board member for Central Florida Offshore Anglers (CFOA); Lifetime Member and Featured Guide of the Federation of Fly Fishers. 

Capt. Keith has been featured in distinguished magazines around the world like the IGFA Magazine (internationally recognized as one of their top six captains of the year for 2009), Tide Magazine, Sport Fishing Magazine, and Florida Sportsman Magazine, and has been highlighted on prominent outdoor shows like O’Neil Outside, and American Angler.  He is also often mentioned on television, magazines and radio throughout the state of Florida, and has one of the top-rated fishing websites in the state.
